Sonya Thompson

KWBG 04/01/25

ORLANDO, Florida—With great sadness, the family of Sonya Lynn Thompson, announces the passing of Sonya Thompson, beloved sister, aunt, and mother on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Adventhealth Hospital, in Orlando, Florida. After suffering a stroke in April of 2022, she met each day with resilience, reminding us all of the power of determination and perseverance, ultimately relocating to Florida where she embraced the path of healing.

Sonya was known for her sharp intellect and quick wit, always able to find humor even in the most challenging of situations. Her resourcefulness was unmatched—whether solving a problem or offering a creative solution, she had a remarkable ability to turn obstacles into opportunities.

Born on January 4, 1969, she graduated Boone High School, was a DMACC Alum, and studied at Iowa State. Sonya enjoyed drawing and crafts throughout her life and was very creative. She worked various years in property management positions and served on the board for the Autism Society of Iowa, which she was a huge advocate of. Sonya’s keen mind and lively spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Sonya was the loving mother of three sons, Cristian and Connor, and she is now reunited with the late Kevin, who passed away in 2008. Her devotion to her children, both here and in spirit, was unwavering, and her love for them will be cherished forever.

She is survived by siblings: Marsha Thompson, Don (Diane) Thompson, Rhonda (Ward) Nelson, and Pam Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as great nieces and nephews; her partner, Tom; not to mention many treasured friends. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, John D. and Mildred D. Thompson; brother, Gerry Thompson; sister, Brenda Portwood; and her youngest son, Kevin Wills. Her laughter, wisdom, and love will echo in the hearts of those she touched.

Though she has left this world, her spirit remains woven into the lives she enriched. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Autism Society of Iowa, PO Box 65311, West Des Moines, IA, 50265 No further arrangements have been made at this time.

Sonya Thompson, 56, Orlando, Florida

Next: Joshua Heyer, Superintendent, Ogden Community School District is the guest and visits about what’s happening in the Ogden School District. During the recent Public Hearing on the District’s Levy Rate, Heyer said there were a few patrons that had questions and it gave the District a chance to explain the mailing from the County Auditor and just what the District’s Certified budget includes. But, he also noted the legislature hasn’t determined State Supplemental Aid yet. He talked about contract negotiations, potentially adding a couple of days to the school calendar this year due to snow days and more. Aired Tuesday, April 01, 2025.
