Stamp Out Hunger This Weekend

KWBG 05/09/19

BOONE, Iowa—Boone letter carriers will join carriers from across the country for the annual “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” held the second Saturday in May.  Over the past week, carriers have been distributing a post card reminder along with a plastic grocery bag so that residents will donate to the food drive.  Locally, the food drive will be split between IMPACT Community Action Partnership and the Salvation Army in Boone.  Amber Ahrens with IMPACT in Boone says the food drive is a big help at a time of the year when donations are fewer and demand remains high.  She said statistically, 1 in 5 children in Boone County is food insecure.  Ahrens added that doesn’t even include elderly clients that are eligible for programs through IMPACT.

To participate and support the efforts of letter carriers, leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox Saturday and your letter carrier will get it back to Boone Post Office.  For those that wish, non-perishable food items may be brought to the post office where they have a large bin in the lobby.  Last year, customers of the Boone Post Office supported the effort with 4,500 pounds of food.
