Terry Lynn Parkhurst-Whipp, 78, Boone, Iowa
BOONE, Iowa—Terry Lynn (Carlson) Parkhurst-Whipp, age 78, of Boone, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Terry was born July 6, 1947, in Boone, Iowa, to Robert and Wilma (Smith) Carlson. She was baptized at Alta Vista Baptist Church in Weatherby, Missouri. Terry graduated from Boone High School in 1965. While at Boone High School, Terry excelled in basketball and was recognized for her skills and achievements at the area and state level. She was invited to play for LOOK Magazine. After graduation, she attended Boone Junior College and Iowa State University.
On November 7, 1970, she was united in marriage to Willie Parkhurst at the First United Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa. She and Willie started their family and farmed with Charolais beef cattle in the Winston, Missouri area while Terry worked as a secretary at Winston Schools. In 1980, Terry and Willie moved to the Boone area, and Terry worked in Ames, Iowa, at the USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Services. Terry and Willie had many close friends in the area and thoroughly enjoyed watching their daughters, Kammie and Shelly, compete in basketball, volleyball, choir, band, and other activities at the United Community Schools.
Willie passed away in 2000, and Terry married Shannon Whipp in 2007. They moved to a farm near Leon, Iowa, and Terry enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gardening, breakfast-in-the-woods events with neighbors, and family visits to Missouri, Boone, and the Des Moines area. Terry traveled to the national parks in Wyoming and Colorado several times and “endured” a six-week motor home trip to Alaska. Terry moved to Boone in 2017 after Shannon’s passing and thrived living close to family and friends in the area.
While in Boone, the highlight of each year for Terry was celebrating the Christmas season with her children, grandchildren, and sisters. Terry was a huge Iowa and Iowa State girls’ basketball fan and was thrilled with the success of Caitlin Clark. She loved her family, talking with friends and the people she met, and was devoted to her dog, Cooper.
Terry is survived by her daughters, Kammie (Jeffrey) Friese of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Shelly (James) Biladeau of Altoona, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Erica, Luke, Noah, Haylee, Alexa, Easton, and Dokken; six great-grandchildren: Nathan, Lane, Magnolia, Liam, Willa and Samuel; three sisters: Linda Hoppe of Boone, Iowa, Karen Brezina (Doug) of Boone, Iowa, and Tammy (Michael) Wallace, Polk City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Special friends include, Alice Clemons, Niecy Lee, and Margaret Davis.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie; her husband, Shannon; her brother-in-law, Steve Hoppe; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Parkhurst; and her brother and sister-in-law, J.L. and Wanda Moore.
Terry courageously battled kidney disease over the past five years. Our beautiful mother, grandmother, and sister is now fully healed and whole and resting in the arms of Jesus. Our hearts are broken here, but our souls rejoice in knowing Terry is exactly where she longed to be.
