Tim McBirnie, 58, Stratford, Iowa
STRATFORD, Iowa—Timothy Raymond McBirnie, 58, of Stratford, Iowa, passed away in his Stratford home on Sunday, February 22, 2026. He was born on June 28, 1968, in Boone, Iowa, the son of Coach Ed McBirnie and Julie (Christensen) McBirnie. On July 16, 2004, he married Cheryl Robbins at the Presbyterian Church in San Manuel, AZ. They divorced in June 2014 and never had any children.
From age 8 to 16, Tim was the three-year-running IA ASU Junior Boxing Champion. In his early teens, Tim helped a neighbor move, and for consideration, he received two large antique pictures of Jesus, which he proudly presented to his mom.
While living in Arizona, Tim received his GED and attended Central Arizona College, where he took three automotive courses and made the honors list! He also worked at an Arizona mine, both above and below ground. Tim and his dad returned to Iowa from Arizona over 10 years ago due to his dad’s lingering health issues. When his mom returned to Iowa, she chose to live in Boone.
Since Tim lived close to his brothers, Joe and Eddie, they were able to get together and laugh as they reminisced over stories, both old and new. On Christmas Eve at Joe and Susie’s, Tim enjoyed watching Oakleigh, Maddox, and Roczen dance while he held baby Macy. She proved to be the spark for Tim to become a fighter once again, a fighter for his health and well-being, just as premature Macy, born on July 11, 2025, was. Tim loved his family and enjoyed listening to Christian Music.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Ed McBirnie; grandparents, Harold “Dutch” and Pauline (Grigsby) McBirnie, and Hubert and Ruth E. (Moore) Christensen.
Tim is survived by his mom, Julie (Christensen) McBirnie of Boone, IA; brothers: Eddie McBirnie of Stratford, IA, Jeff McBirnie of Ash Fork, AZ, and Joe (Susie) McBirnie of Boone, IA; two sisters-in-law, Amy McBirnie of Lamoni, IA, and Danelle McBirnie of Boone, IA; nieces, Amanda (Derek) Beaumier, and Carissa McBirnie; nephews: Austin (Sami) McBirnie, Adam McBirnie, Jake (Savannah) McBirnie, Kolby McBirnie, and Chaz McBirnie; great-nephews, Maddoc McBirnie and Roczen McBirnie; great-nieces, Oakleigh McBirnie and Macy Beaumier; and many extended family members and special friends.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone.
Memorials are suggested to the family to use at their discretion.
