Timothy Evans

KWBG 06/24/25

DES MOINES, Iowa—Timothy “Tim” Evans, 66, of Des Moines, IA, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, with his wife, Julie (McGlynn) Evans, by his side in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Tim was born January 24, 1959 in Hyattsville, Maryland, the son of Robert F. and Ruth (Foot) Evans. He joined the US Air Force in 1977, and served honorably until 1983. He then acquired his pilot’s license.

Tim earned his Master’s in Education and his PhD in Organizational Leadership from Liberty University.

Tim began his career as a cross-country truck driver in 1988, where he remained for over 30 years. After his time as a truck driver, he became the College Dean and President of ITT.

Tim worked for Windstar as a tour bus driver out of Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, where he met the love of his life, Julie McGlynn, on September 23, 2015, during a trip to New York. The pair married exactly a year later on September 23, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Tim became the Dean of Education at the Fortis Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2017, Tim became the Enrollment Counselor for Cornell University and retired from that position in 2024. Tim and Julie began to travel coast to coast in 2018, eventually settling at the Avila Pismo RV Resort in San Luis Obispo, California, where they called “home” for the last three years. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Julie, and planning little adventures for them to go on.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Evans and Daniel Evans; and his four-legged furry friend, Puddles.

Tim is survived by his wife of almost nine years, Julie Evans of San Luis Obispo, California; five children, Lauren (Mark Spiess) Evans of Wisconsin, Brian Evans of Arizona, Corey Evans of Wisconsin, Sean (Melissa) Evans of California, and Craig (Cheryl) Evans of Minnesota; six grandchildren, Jaelyn, Bella, Lucy, Nolan, Milo, and Calum; sister, Sharon Nurse of New York; sister-in-law, Alberta Evans of Pennsylvania; mother-in-law, Joanne McGlynn of Boone; two brothers-in-law, Lonnie (Cherie) McGlynn of Des Moines and Jim McGlynn of Boone; two sisters-in-law, Terri (Dave) Kalwishky of Des Moines and Lynda (Paul) LaCava of Providence, Rhode Island; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and “Tim’s cat”, Fluffy.

Visitation will be from to 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, IA 50036. The funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Boone, with Military Honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. The service will be livestreamed and available for viewing on Tim’s Tribute Wall on the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel website.

Tim could always be found wearing one of his Hawaiian shirts, which also became his uniform at work. The family asks that you please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt to the visitation.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Tim’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
