BOONE, Iowa—In June, the Boone City Council approved a recommendation to change traffic lights on Story Street in the downtown area to single flashing red lights. The recommendation was made by the Council’s Public Safety Committee and at the time extended the area to include the intersection at 11th and Story. At the time, Public Works Director Waylon Andrews felt some motorists still felt there was a malfunction in the three-light signals. The project will also include the placement of signage emphasizing pedestrian right of way. The project had a cost of $21,000.
The project retains all the present infrastructure should a change to a three-light system occur in the future. The three light signals are being kept and may be used for parts for other three-light signals in the community.

Three way traffic signals at 9th and Story changed out to single flashing red lights.
