Transcontinental Convoy to stop in Boone

KWBG 08/23/19

The Transcontinental Convoy, with its restored jeeps, trucks and other historic military vehicles has made its way into Iowa

The 100th anniversary convoy is a project of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association. A century ago, the original transcontinental convoy included some 285 enlisted men and 24 officers, including a certain ambitious lieutenant colonel.

The first military vehicle convoy had Dwight Eisenhower on it.  In 1956,when Eisenhower was President, he signed into being the Interstate Highway System.

The convoy spent last night in DeWitt. Today, they will be lunching in Cedar Rapids, making their way to Marshalltown for tonight.  On Saturday, the convoy will stop in Boone as they make their way to Jefferson for a lunch stop.
