Two Boone Council Members Criticized for Joining BLM Facebook Page

KWBG 06/16/20

BOONE, Iowa—Two Boone City Council Members were criticized by a couple of residents Monday night for joining the Black Lives Matter, Boone County Facebook page.  Specifically, the criticism was leveled at Elijah Stines and Holly Stecker for supporting the social media page which specifically calls for the abolishment of police and encouraging community and mental health centered efforts to regulate and manage society.

Joe Pundzak approached the Council during the public comment portion of the meeting and asked specifically if there was  a plan to dissolve the police department.  He said he had an interest in investing in a  building in downtown Boone for a business venture, but wouldn’t consider it if the police department were to be dissolved.  He questioned each Council Member about their position regarding abolishing the police department.

Todd Rasmussen, a Boone contractor and recent candidate for the Republican nomination for State Senate District 24, also expressed his disappointment that Stines and Stecker were part of the Facebook page.  He even suggested they consider resigning from the council.

Neither did.
