Utility Committee Public Meeting Monday

KWBG 11/23/21

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council’s Utility Committee has set a public meeting for Monday evening, November 29th at 6:00 at the Boone City Hall Auditorium. This meeting will focus on an offer the city has received from U.S. Water Services Corporation to operate and manage the City’s Water and Waste Water Treatment Facilities.

Boone City Administrator Bill Skare has talked about the offer on the KWBG “Tuned In” Program previously, but that was before the city actually received a written proposal. That has now been received and was discussed at last weeks Utility Committee Meeting. Skare has reiterated that the city is not considering selling it’s facilities. He also said U.S. Water would not have any control over the City’s water and sewer rates.  Rates would still be set by the City Council and the City would still be responsible for the distribution and collection systems, as well as any capital improvements to either the Water or Waste Water Facilities. If the city decides to work with U.S. Water, it would affect a half dozen city employees.

The public is encouraged to attend the public meeting Monday at 6:00 p.m. at the Boone City Hall Auditorium. Handicapped accessibility is available by using the west entrance at the Boone City Hall. Skare will also talk about the proposal on the KWBG News and Public Affairs Program “Tuned In” right after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on KWBG 1590 AM or 101.5 FM.
