BOONE, Iowa—Last week was a Veterans Week locally. The Annual Veterans Days Ceremony was held at the Linwood Park Cemetery on Monday, November 11th. It was a little cool with wind out of the north, but there was still a good turnout to hear from Wyatt Chidester, Captain USN (Retired).
Tuesday, many veterans gathered at 807 6th Street to recognize the Boone Area Veterans Center project. The building was to the Veterans Center Board, made up of members from the Boone VFW, American Legion and Marine Corp League, by Chad Houston and his team from Kruck Plumbing and Heating. The large check actually gives the building and site to the Boone Area Veterans Center.
The Veterans Center Board raised the funds to demolish the building and will soon begin their capital campaign to raise $5 million for a new building that will house a restaurant available to the public, a reception room, and facilities for veterans organizations. Fred Greiner has been serving as a consultant for the project and it might take a year or two but they are committed to making the project happen.
