Webster City City Council Approves Resolution to Create 600 Acre Industrial Park South of Highway 20

KWBG 02/28/25

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa—The Webster City City Council has officially approved a resolution to create a 600-acre industrial park south of Highway 20, a strategic move designed to attract new business investment and create jobs for the region. This project will be developed as part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (IEDA) Certified Sites Program, a key initiative that helps Iowa communities prepare prime real estate for economic growth.

As part of the IEDA’s Certified Sites Program, Webster City will undergo a comprehensive, rigorous review process, ensuring the property meets high standards for site readiness. This process will include providing detailed support documentation similar to that required for a site selection project, making the park a shovel-ready site. In today’s fast-moving business environment, this certification is essential for attracting companies that need to accelerate their development schedules.

“This is a momentous step for Webster City,” said Webster City Mayor John Hawkins. “The creation of this 600-acre industrial park will position our community for long-term economic success. It represents a significant investment in our future, one that will bring new business opportunities, job growth, and enhanced infrastructure to the area. We’re excited to see this vision come to life and look forward to the benefits it will bring to both Webster City and the broader region.”

Dan Culhane, President and CEO of the Ames Regional Economic Alliance, emphasized the importance of the project to the local and regional economy: “The approval of this resolution is a major milestone for Webster City and for our entire region. By participating in the IEDA’s Certified Sites Program, Webster City is demonstrating its commitment to fostering a pro-business environment that meets the needs of today’s industries. This industrial park will help ensure that the region remains competitive and attractive to prospective employers, ultimately benefiting the people of Webster City and surrounding communities.”

The certified industrial park will be strategically located with easy access to major transportation routes, including Highway 20, making it ideal for manufacturing, logistics, and other industries that require quick access to regional and national markets. The City of Webster City, working with the Ames Regional Economic Alliance and local development partners, aims to complete the certification process by August 2025. Webster City and Hamilton County joined the Ames Regional Alliance last year and have a working arrangement similar to Boone and Boone County.
