BOONE, Iowa—Boone County Attorney Matt Speers office releases information about court cases handled by the county attorney’s office. This week’s cases included sentencing of a Des Moines man for felony exploitation of a minor, a case handled by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

COURT SUMMARIES

7-20-25 – 7-31-26

– Fredy Daniel Espinoza, 21, Des Moines, was sentenced by the District Court following a guilty plea to Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a Class B Felony. The defendant was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with a mandatory 12.5 years to be served before being eligible for parole. The defendant was also ordered to a lifetime special parole and lifetime Sex Offender Registry requirement. The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

– Amanda Nicole Teter, 34, Ankeny, was sentenced by the District and Associate Court following guilty pleas to Theft 2nd, a Class D Felony; and, Disorderly Conduct, a Serious Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years in prison with all but 7 days suspended. On the suspended portion the defendant was placed on probation with terms plus payment of fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

– Joyce Marie Patterson, 71, Algona, was sentenced by the District Associate Court following a guilty plea to OWI 1st, a Serious Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to 2 days in jail, completion of a substance abuse evaluation with follow through of treatment, a course for drinking drivers, plus payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

– Justin Michael Vinzant, 42, Tea SD, was sentenced by the District Associate Court following a guilty plea to OWI 1st, a Serious Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to 2 days in jail, completion of a substance abuse evaluation with follow through of treatment, a course for drinking drivers, plus payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

– Daissy De Jesus Ulrich, 43, Perry, was granted a deferred judgment by the District Associate Court following a guilty plea to Disorderly Conduct, a Simple Misdemeanor. On the deferred, the defendant was placed on probation with terms to include completion of a batterer’s education course, plus payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Perry Police Department.

– Melvin Kenneth Hitsman, 62, Ogden, was sentenced by the Magistrate Court following a guilty plea to Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to 30 days in jail, all suspended. On the suspended portion the defendant was placed on probation with terms to include completion of a batterer’s education course, plus payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Ogden Police Department.

– Mark Allen Atwood, 38, Boone, was sentenced by the Magistrate Court following guilty pleas to two counts of Compulsory Education Violations, Simple Misdemeanors. The defendant was sentenced to payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone Police Department.

– Jesse Garrett Monroe, 30, Ogden, was sentenced by the Magistrate Court following a guilty plea to Disorderly Conduct, a Simple Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Ogden Police Department.

– Jordan Boe Smith, 47, Boone, was sentenced by the Magistrate Court following a guilty plea to Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to payment of a fine and fees. The case was investigated by the Boone Police Department.
