DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is responsible for monitoring the price of fuel in the Iowa. This week’s report shows a continuing increase in gasoline prices. Regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.91 across Iowa, up 2 cents from last week.
Crude Oil Summary
- The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $3.74 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $62.26.
- Brent crude oil fell $3.56 and currently priced at $65.70.
- One year ago, WTI crude sold for $32.50 and Brent crude was at $33.06.
Motor Fuels
- As of Wednesday, May 19, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.91 across Iowa according to AAA.
- Prices were up 2 cents from last week’s price and $1.13 higher than one year ago.
- The national average on Wednesday was $3.04, up 3 cents from last week’s price.
- Retail diesel prices in Iowa held steady this week with a statewide average of $3.05.
- One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.15 in Iowa.
- The current Iowa diesel price is 12 cents less than the national average of $3.17.
- Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.34.
- The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.05 for U87-E10, $2.28 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.14 for ULSD#2, $2.29 for ULSD#1, and $2.55 per gallon for E-70 prices.
Heating Fuels
- Natural gas prices fell 1 cent at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $2.96/MMbtu.
- Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
