Weekly Fuel Report

KWBG 10/18/23

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has released the most recent fuel report for Iowa and once again, the seasonal trend of declining gasoline prices has continued. The price of regular unleaded gasoline fell 8 cents, averaging $3.29 across Iowa according to AAA.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $4.92 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $88.20.
  • Brent crude oil rose $5.95 and is currently priced at $91.35.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $82.82 and Brent crude was at $89.46.


Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.29 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices fell 8 cents from last week’s price and are down 35 cents from a year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $3.58, down 8 cents from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa held steady this week with a statewide average of $4.26.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $5.09 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 38 cents less than the national average of $4.64.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.38 for U87-E10, $2.71 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $3.63 for ULSD#2, $4.17 for ULSD#1, and $2.40 per gallon for E-70 prices.


Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices were up 2 cents with a statewide average of $1.54 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices rose 23 cents, with a statewide average of $3.87 per gallon.
  • Natural gas prices fell 16 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $3.10/MMbtu
