Weekly Fuel Report, Gas Prices Steady

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship monitors the fuel prices in Iowa and the weekly report shows that the price of regular unleaded gasoline held steady, averaging $3.24 across Iowa according to AAA.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $9.96 per barrel, currently priced at $66.51.
  • Brent crude oil fell $9.86 and is currently priced at $72.54.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $96.44 and Brent crude was at $105.14.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, March 15, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.24 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices held steady from last week’s price and are 67 cents lower than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $3.47, up 2 cents from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up 1 cent this week with a statewide average of $3.95.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $4.73 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 39 cents less than the national average of $4.34.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.27 for U87-E10, $2.63 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.78 for ULSD#2, $3.27 for ULSD#1, and $2.31 per gallon for E-70 prices.

Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices held steady with a statewide average of $1.93 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices fell 8 cents, with a statewide average of $3.43 per gallon.
  • Natural gas prices fell 16 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $2.42/MMbtu.
