Weekly Fuel Report, Gasoline Continues Climb

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship have released the weekly fuel report and once again regular unleaded gasoline prices in Iowa were up 4 cents  with a statewide average of $3.33.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $4.34 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $94.11.
  • Brent crude oil rose $4.05 and currently priced at $95.41.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $60.05 and Brent crude was at $63.96.


Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, February 9, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.33 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices rose 4 cents from last week’s price and 87 cents higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $3.51, up 4 cents from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up 6 cents this week with a statewide average of $3.71.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.68 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 21 cents less than the national average of $3.92.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.49 for U87-E10, $2.81 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.80 for ULSD#2, $3.06 for ULSD#1, and $2.32 per gallon for E-70 prices.


Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices were steady with a statewide average of $1.98 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices fell 6 cents, with a statewide average of $3.29 per gallon.
  • Natural gas prices rose $.48 at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $4.52/MMbtu.
