Weekly Fuel Report, Natural Gas Prices Continue to Climb

DES MOINES, Iowa—The weekly fuel report by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship showed that the price of Natural gas rose 28 cents this week, currently at $3.29/MMbtu.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $4.45 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $35.82.
  • Brent crude oil fell $4.54 and currently priced at $37.41.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $55.54 and Brent crude was at $61.05.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Thursday, Oct. 29, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.02 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices fell 2 cents from last week’s price and 41 cents lower than one year ago.
    • The national average on Thursday was $2.15, down 1 cent from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa held steady this week with a statewide average of $2.17.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.84 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 20 cents less than the national average of $2.37.
  • Wholesale ethanol fell 6 cents, currently at $1.39.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.09 for U87-E10, $1.18 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $1.18, ULSD#1 is at $1.39, and E-70 priced at $1.48 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices rose 1 cent for a statewide average of $1.09 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil was down 1 cent from last week, ending with a statewide average of $1.72 per gallon.
  • Natural Gas prices rose 28 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $3.29/MMbtu.
