Weekly Fuel Report, Prices Continue Climb

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has released the weekly fuel report and retail gasoline prices in Iowa were up 46 cents this week with a statewide average of $3.89.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $8.08 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $116.57.
  • Brent crude oil rose $9.32 and currently priced at $119.75.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $64.01 and Brent crude was at $67.03.


Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, March 9, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.89 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices rose 46 cents from last week’s price and $1.12 higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $4.25, up 57 cents from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up 75 cents this week with a statewide average of $4.57.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.05 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 31 cents less than the national average of $4.88.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $3.18 for U87-E10, $3.53 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $4.32 for ULSD#2, $4.49 for ULSD#1, and $2.83 per gallon for E-70 prices.


Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices were up $.11 with a statewide average of $2.14 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices rose $.72, with a statewide average of $4.11 per gallon.
  • Natural gas prices fell $.25 at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $4.52/MMbtu.
