Weekly Fuel Report, Unleaded Gasoline Up

DES MOINES, Iowa—The weekly fuel report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship shows that regular unleaded gasoline prices in Iowa were up 3 cents, averaging $3.06 across Iowa.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $2.66 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $78.39.
  • Brent crude oil rose $2.58 and currently priced at $81.29.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $49.93 and Brent crude was at $53.16.


Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, January 5, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.06 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices fell 3 cents from last week’s price and 83 cents higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $3.29, up 1 cent from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up 1 cent this week with a statewide average of $3.33.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.46 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 24 cents less than the national average of $3.57.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.14.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.23 for U87-E10, $2.39 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.44 for ULSD#2, $2.69 for ULSD#1, and $2.43 per gallon for E-70 prices.


Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices held steady with a statewide average of $1.89 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices rose 5 cents, with a statewide average of $2.96 per gallon.
  • Natural gas prices fell 7 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $3.83/MMbtu.
