Weekly Report Shows Increases in Diesel and Motor Fuels

DES MOINES, Iowa—The price of retail diesel in Iowa rose $.06 this week, closing at $2.93 a gallon.

Crude Oil Summary

The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $1.01 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $56.15.

Brent crude oil fell $.63, and it is currently priced at $65.87.

One year ago, WTI crude sold for $62.60 and Brent crude was at $65.67.

Motor Fuels

As of Tuesday, March 5, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.38 across Iowa according to AAA. This is $.04 higher than last week and $.12 lower than one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $2.44, up $.03 from last week’s price.

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa rose $.06 from last week’s price with a statewide average of $2.93. One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.94 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price is $.07 less than the national average of $3.00.

Wholesale ethanol prices fell $.02 from last week’s price, currently at $1.34.

The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.74 for U87-E10, $1.89 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $2.10, ULSD#1 is at $2.50, and E-70 is priced at $1.55 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

Propane prices were up a penny from last week for a statewide average of $1.33 per gallon. Home heating oil was down $.02 from last week’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $2.44. Natural Gas prices rose $.06 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $2.85/MMbtu.
