Weekly Report Shows Natural Gas Price Decline

DES MOINES, Iowa—The price of natural gas fell $.18 this week, closing at $2.53/MMbtu.  The prices are collected and distributed by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.10 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $64.06.
  • Brent crude oil rose $.56, and it is currently priced at $71.69.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $66.52 and Brent crude was at $71.71.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Tuesday, April 16, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.74 across Iowa according to AAA.
  • This is $.08 higher than last week and $.15 higher than one year ago.
  • The national average on Tuesday was $2.83, up $.07 from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa were up a penny from last week’s price with a statewide average of $2.98.
  • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.96 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price is $.09 less than the national average of $3.07.
  • Wholesale ethanol prices held steady at last week’s price, currently at $1.32.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.02 for U87-E10, $2.24 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $2.18, ULSD#1 is at $2.54, and E-70 is priced at $1.62 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

  • Natural Gas prices fell $.18 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $2.53/MMbtu.

Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
