Weekly Water Watch, Don Williams Lake Beach Removed from City/County List

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has conducted it’s test of water conditions at state beaches and have listed advisories for 15 beaches this weekend. There are three others in the city and county group that have tests that exceed E. coli thresholds. Last week’s report included the Don Williams Lake Beach as exceed the E. coli limits, but a test early in the week confirmed the levels were below state guidelines.

There are 18 beach advisories for the week of 7/18

14 Beaches with an E. coli Advisory:

Backbone Beach (Dundee, Delaware County, IA)* 

Beed’s Lake Beach (Hampton, Franklin County, IA)* 

Black Hawk Beach (Black Hawk Lake, Lake View, Sac County, IA)*

Lake Ahquabi Beach (Indianola, Warren County, IA)*  

Lake Darling Beach (Brighton, Washington County, IA)*

Lake Manawa Beach (Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, IA)* 

Lake of Three Fires Beach (Bedford, Taylor County, IA)* 

Lewis and Clark Beach (Blue Lake, Onawa, Monona County, IA)*

Lower Pine Lake Beach (Eldora, Hardin County, IA)*

Nine Eagles Beach (Davis City, Decatur County, IA)*

North Overlook Beach (Lake Red Rock, Pella, Marion County, IA)**

Pleasant Creek Lake Beach (Palo, Linn County, IA)* 

Union Grove Beach (Gladbrook, Tama County, IA)*

Whitebreast Beach (Lake Red Rock, Pella, Marion County, IA)** 

1 State Beach with a Microcystin Advisory
Lake Darling Beach (Brighton, Washington County, IA)*
 

3 City and County Beaches exceed the state’s advisory threshold for E. coli.*

Note: Monitoring has been suspended at Lake Keomah due to renovation activities.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources conducts the testing on state beaches during the summer and makes the information available on a DNR website. The Iowa Environmental Council uses the date in it’s Weekly Water Watch digital newsletter released Friday afternoons.
