Wicker motors Madrid past Martensdale-St. Mary’s

The Class A No. 6 Madrid football team cruised to a 48-0 victory at Martensdale-St. Mary’s Friday, Sept. 6. The Tigers improved their record to 1-1. Senior quarterback Preston Wicker led the way for Madrid. He led the offense with 126 passing yards, going 5 for 5 with 4 touchdowns. Wicker also rushed for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns in 12 attempts.

The Class A No. 6 Madrid football team cruised to a 48-0 victory at Martensdale-St. Mary’s Friday, Sept. 6. The Tigers improved their record to 1-1.

Senior quarterback Preston Wicker led the way for Madrid. He led the offense with 126 passing yards, going 5 for 5 with 4 touchdowns. Wicker also rushed for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns in 12 attempts.

Sophomore Will Atkinson rushed for 73 yards while junior Easton Halverson rushed for 45 yards.

Sophomore Emerson Bridgewater had two receptions for 54 yards and scored 1 touchdown. Bridgewater also was the placekicker and went 6 for 6 on PATs.

The Tiger defense was led by junior Jake Sawyer with 4.5 tackles.

Sophomore Kinnick Grimm and junior Terrin Lawrenson each contributed 4 tackles.

The Tigers scored 28 points in the first quarter and added another 7 points in the second quarter to lead 35-0 at the half. The final 13 points were scored in the third quarter.

Next Madrid plays host to Mount Ayr (2-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13.
