Williamson Announces Campaign for Boone Council Seat

KWBG 10/11/21

BOONE, Iowa—Linda Williamson has joined the race for the Boone City Council At-Large seat, currently held by Holly Stecker.  Williamson’s press release was received late last Friday:

Hi, I’m Linda Williamson, and I am running for Boone City Council, At-Large.

My husband David and I have called Boone home since moving from Ogden more than 13 years ago. Throughout the years I have been actively involved in many community projects and I have served in leadership positions on numerous boards, including the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB), the Iowa School Psychology
Board (ISPA) and the local and Des Moines YMCA Board. Prior to moving to Boone, I was elected to the Ogden School Board, and proudly served the community for 12 years. I am an active board member for the Boone Arts Commission, and currently serve on the First Thursday’s planning committee.

My work on these volunteer boards has provided me with invaluable experience around the fiscal management of budgets, hiring and evaluating personnel, creating successful community outreach programs, and management of a successful bond campaign for a new middle school in Ogden. I am the proudest of my work as an AEA School Psychologist and AEA Administrator. For 32 years I was a strong advocate for children and their parents. I assisted families, teachers, and school administrators evaluate and provide appropriate educational programs that
met each child’s needs, particularly students with ADHD, Autism, and behavioral disorders. In my role as AEA Administrator, I supervised all the personnel working in a variety of disciplines serving the school district.

As a member of the Council, I will work as part of a team, support sound financial decisions, and always consider what is best for all members of our community before making decisions. I would like to assist in moving Boone forward toward building a new community recreation center, developing a comprehensive plan for downtown revitalization, and continue working to improve our aging infrastructure and safety of our community. All of which would not only be an asset to our citizens but would also make Boone more attractive to families and businesses relocating to the area. I would like to see Boone continue to grow, but in a thoughtful, fiscally responsible manner, with a clear plan that our community will support.

If you share these goals, I would appreciate your vote in the November election.

Thank you.

Linda Williamson, Candidate for the Boone City Council At-Large
