Extension Invites Public to Celebrate 100 Years in Boone County

KWBG 08/20/18

BOONE, Iowa—This year Boone County continues to celebrate 100 years of organized county extension work. The public is invited to celebrate this milestone on August 21st from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. at the Boone County Extension office at 1327 SE Marshall Street in Boone.

The event will include light refreshments and activities for all ages; including a virtual reality roller coaster, the Iowa History 101 mobile museum, “Ask an Expert” with Extension specialists and more. Cy the Cyclone will be available for pictures as well. There will also be a short presentation from local staff and the Vice President for Extension and Outreach, Dr. John Lawrence.

“A hundred years ago the people of Boone County joined the extension movement and hired their first local extension agent,” said Alex Merk, County Director for ISU Extension and Outreach in Boone County. “This long-established partnership with Iowa State University provides local citizens with access to education and university research.”

“Education and partnerships are how we solve problems and prepare for the future. ISU Extension and Outreach looks forward to being part of the ongoing life of Boone County for years to come,” Merk said.

More than 1 million benefit

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach educational programs cover the entire life span, from Iowa’s youngest to oldest residents. More than 1 million people directly benefit from ISU Extension and Outreach educational programs each year. Extension education online reaches more than 4 million.

ISU Extension and Outreach is part of the federal Cooperative Extension Service — a network of more than 100 land-grant institutions, including Iowa State University, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture serving communities and counties across the United States. Every county in Iowa has an elected extension council that decides how to support ISU Extension and Outreach educational programs at the county level.

For more information about ISU Extension and Outreach contact the Boone County office at 515-432-3882 or visit www.extension.iastate.edu/boone.
