Council and Community Theatre Arrive at Agreement

Posted on 18 September 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council received notice at their meeting Monday that the Boone Community Theatre would accept their offer of $50,000 in Hotel/Motel Tax proceeds over the next five years.  Earlier in September, the Council voted to bring an end to the offer in 15-days.  Apparently Monday, the attorney representing the Boone Community Theatre submitted the acceptance of the offer which included vacating their current property (the former Garfield Elementary School) and turning it over to the city.  All the details will be put in writing and will need approval from the Council and the Boone Community Theatre Board of Directors.

Boone Community Theatre will need to find space to store the equipment they’ve accumulated over the last several years.  They have also indicated that they will continue to move ahead with the planned schedule of productions this season, including three performances this week of Anne with an e, which is being performed at the Evangelical Free Church, 1407 Kate Shelley Drive, Boone.  So far they have been unsuccessful with finding a suitable location to rent or purchase.

Boone Mayor John Slight, on Tuned In on KWBG Tuesday, said the city’s concern has been about safety in the current location.  He said the city will deal with the cost associated with the demolition of the building and eventually hope to have a development suitable for the neighborhood.
