County Unemployment Rate Drops, July to August

BOONE, Iowa—Last week, Iowa Workforce Development announced that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.5 percent in August.  The state’s jobless rate was 2.4 percent one year ago.  The U.S. unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent in August.

The actual county rates, which are not seasonally adjusted, were released this week.  Boone County has a rate of 2.2 percent, down from 2.5 percent in July.  The lowest rate in the area was Dallas County at 1.8 percent, down from 2 percent in July.  Story County was 1.9 percent down from 2.2 percent in July.  Greene County saw the largest decline going from 3 percent in July to 2.3 percent in August.  Hamilton County was 2.5 percent in August down from 2.8 percent in July.  Polk County recorded a 2.6 percent in August, compared to 2.7 percent in July.  Webster County was the only county to record an increase from 3.3 percent in July to 3.4 percent in August.
