Diesel Prices Drop in Past Week

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agricluture and Land Stewardship released this weeks information about fuel prices.  The price of Iowa Diesel prices in Iowa dropped 4 cents, averaging $2.70 per gallon.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.11 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $51.84.
  • Brent crude oil rose $.34 and is currently priced at $56.54.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $53.90 and Brent crude was at $63.27.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Thursday, February 13, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.23 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices fell $.02 from last week’s price and $.10 higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Thursday was $2.43 down $.03 from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa fell $.04 this week with a statewide average of $2.70.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.74 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is $.19 less than the national average of $2.89.
  • Wholesale ethanol prices fell $.01, currently at $1.34.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.60 for U87-E10, $1.78 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $1.74, ULSD#1 is at $1.94, and E-70 is priced at $1.47 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices were steady with a statewide average of $1.26 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices fell $.01, with a statewide average of $2.16 per gallon.
  • Natural Gas prices fell $.02 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $1.84/MMbtu.
