BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Fire Department was called to the scene of a structure fire on the northwest side of Boone Friday morning. The department released this information and photos on the departments Facebook page.
Friday morning at approximately 8:30am the Boone Fire Department was dispatched to a mobile home on fire at 429 W 16th St. just outside of the city limits of Boone. Chief 8-60 and Engine 8-62 responded from quarters with our 3 on-duty firefighters and Chief Adams, arriving approximately 3 minutes after dispatch. All off-duty firefighters were paged to respond as well with Truck 8-66, Engine 8-61 and Engine 8-63 responding with 7 additional firefighters arriving within 10 minutes of the initial dispatch.
On arrival, bystanders reported that they believed the occupant was still inside the home and a vehicle was found parked out front. Our on-duty crew found heavy fire coming from the front of the home. A-shift stretched an attack line and initiated fire attack before being able to gain entry to the home. After the fire directly inside the door was brought under control, crews quickly entered the structure and began searching for victims in zero-visibility and high heat conditions with others continuing to extinguish fire throughout the mobile home. Thankfully, while crews were still working, the resident was able to be reached and found to not be home. The fire was eventually brought under control but the home was badly damaged by the fire. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The Boone Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Boone County Communications Center, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Boone Police, Boone County Ambulance, Boone County Search and Rescue and Boone County Emergency Management.
