Community Theatre, Shakespeare in the Park, October 1,2, & 3

KWBG 09/24/20

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Community Theatre will present Shakespeare’s Macbeth at Herman Park Pavilion in Boone on Oct. 1 and 2 at 7 pm and Oct. 3 at 1 pm.  This chilling tragedy will bring audiences live theatre with the social distancing and ambiance of outdoor seating.

Drew Zahn of Perry, a descendent of William Shakespeare, is co-directing the play which he “gently” adapted for BCT’s cast and audience.

“Drew did an excellent job of maintaining Shakespeare’s poetic style and preserving the integrity of the play’s iconic speeches, but swapping out archaic language that clouds or confuses the plot for modern audiences,” said Zahn’s co-director, Christopher Levi of Ogden.  “Some “thees” and “thous” are gone, but this BCT adaptation is nonetheless the same tale of a Scottish lord and the wicked ambition that drove him to his doom.”

Cast members from Ames, Boone, Ogden, Perry and Jefferson will appear in Macbeth.  Also, since one actor is deaf, a sign language interpreter will narrate throughout.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and those 65 or older. They can be purchased at www.boonecommunitytheatre.org, or at the park but will be limited by social distancing guidelines.. Masks are recommended until patrons are seated.  Those within 25 feet of the stage are strongly encouraged to wear masks throughout the performance.
