DES MOINES, Iowa—On Thursday, Representative Phil Thompson (R-Boone) voted to pass HF 902, a bill to protect Iowans’ personal freedoms in regards to COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
HF 902 creates a process businesses must follow to allow medical and religious exemptions from any COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Additionally, it guarantees that employees who are fired due to their decision not to receive a COVID-19 vaccine are eligible for unemployment insurance.
“The Biden administration’s extreme level of overreach on vaccine mandates has infringed on the rights of Iowa workers and businesses alike.” said Thompson. “I have been listening to constituents who’ve been forced to choose between keeping their jobs or compromising either their health or religious values. I’ve been working hard to find a solution that will protect Iowans’ individual rights, without unintended consequences on businesses. I believe we have found a solution and I was proud to vote for this legislation.”
The bill passed the Iowa House with bipartisan support and a vote of 67-27.
