BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are set for 87 year old Leo Morgan of Stratford Specialty Care in Stratford, Iowa and formerly of Boone, Iowa. Leo passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at Stratford Specialty Care.
Leo was born in Clarion, IA on November 9, 1934 to James Berten and Anna (Wendinger) Morgan. He attended Boone Schools and served four years with the National Guard in Boone. Leo married Verla Campbell on December 23, 1955 on her family farm in Pilot Mound, IA. To this union four children were born.
Leo worked as a hired man until 1956 when he started farming on his own in Boone and Hamilton counties. He also did custom combining and corn shelling as well as raising livestock. In 1985, Leo left the farm and moved to Boone, where he was employed at Boone County Hospital until he retired in 1996. Leo believed in working hard and instilled a great work ethic in his children and grandchildren.
Leo enjoyed his Canadian fishing trips, watching little league games, softball games, camping and reading westerns. His greatest joy was helping raise his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Verla; his parents; brothers, Alley and LaVerne; and sisters, Charlene and Kathleen.
He is survived by his son, Tim (Penny) Morgan of Boone; daughters, Virginia (Gary) Bries of Farley, Jackie (Steve) Gatley of Ankeny and Deb (Matt) Westrum of Stratford; grandchildren, Sean Miller, Shannon (Larry) Kaster, Jeff Bries, Jesse (Ben) Bohlken, James Gatley, Steven Gatley, Julianna Gatley (Gus Moon), Adam (Amanda) Westrum and Alex (Jillian) Westrum; great grandchildren, Von and Asa Kaster, Michael and Maddox Bries, Natalie and Jenna Bohlken, Caleb Gatley, Morgan Moon, Lizzie and Aurora Westrum; sister, Grace Wilhite of Denver, CO; as well as extended family and friends.
A private family burial will be held at Bass Point Cemetery.
