Navigator Carbon Capture Pipeline Project Meetings for Story and Boone Counties Today

Posted on 06 January 2022 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Last October, the Iowa Utilities Board approved dates and locations for a series of public informational meetings to inform landowners in 36 Iowa counties about a proposed large-scale carbon capture pipeline by Navigator Heartland Greenway LLC. The meetings for Story and Boone Counties will be held today, in Story County at noon at Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in the Prairie Ballroom, and in Boone County the meeting will be this evening at 6:00 in the DMACC Boone Campus auditorium.

The Navigator pipeline is proposed to span about 1,300 miles across five states, including Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota. Navigator’s pipeline would capture carbon dioxide at local facilities, convert it to liquid form and transfer the liquefied carbon dioxide to a permanent underground site in Illinois.

The previous public informational meeting for Boone County was last October and was held for the Midwest Carbon Express Pipeline proposed by Summit Carbon Solutions, which would transport liquefied carbon dioxide to an underground site in North Dakota.

Proposed routing for Midwest Carbon Express would affect the northwest part of Boone County.  Navigator’s proposed route would affect the northeast part of Boone County.
