BOONE, Iowa—Raymond Ellsworth Snyder, age 85 of Cincinnati, OH and formerly of Boone, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.www.schroedermemorialchapel.com. Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond was born on February 12, 1937 in Boone, IA, the son of Iman and Geneva (Allen) Snyder. He graduated from Boone High School in 1955. Raymond was united in marriage with Elizabeth Joan Fitzgerald on May 19, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church in Boone. Raymond worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, later the Union Pacific Railroad, for 44 years. He started his career as a railway surveyor and eventually became the Assistant Chief Engineer of Maintenance, New Construction and Bridges before retiring in March of 1999. Raymond was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending his time with family when he was not working. He also enjoyed a good game of golf, if that is what he would call it. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth Snyder; and sister, Shirley Nowels. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth of Ohio; children, Patrick (Shawn) Snyder of Wausau, WI, Michael (Jean) Snyder of Cincinnati, OH, John (Tina) Snyder of Chicago, IL and Mary (Robert) Orr of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Heitman, Dan (Rebecca) Snyder, Margaret (David) Luken, Colin Snyder, Brendan Snyder, Sarah Snyder, Tyler Snyder, Kiersten Snyder, John Snyder, Margaret Snyder, Andrew Snyder, Joseph Orr, Mary Kate Orr and Elizabeth Orr; great grandchildren, Lyra and Declan Heitman, Liam and Rory Snyder, William and Sophia Luken, Addy and Liam Snyder and another grandson to arrive in September; brothers, LaVerne (Elaine) Snyder and James (Dana) Snyder; and brother-in-law, Paul Nowels. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:30 P.M. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets. A Rosary will begin at 7:30 P.M. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Life League. Online condolences may be left at
