Weekly Fuel Report

KWBG 07/20/22

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has released the weekly fuel report and the price of regular unleaded gasoline fell 22 cents, averaging $4.24 across Iowa according to AAA.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $6.11 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $102.50.
  • Brent crude oil rose $5.78 and currently priced at $105.51.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $67.42 and Brent crude was at $70.03

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, July 20, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $4.24 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices fell 22 cents from last week’s price and $1.25 higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $4.47, down 16 cents from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were down 11 cents this week with a statewide average of $5.16.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.12 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 34 cents less than the national average of $5.50.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.92 for U87-E10, $3.42 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $3.84 for ULSD#2, $4.11 for ULSD#1, and $2.83 per gallon for E-70 prices.

Heating Fuels

  • Natural gas prices rose $1.25 at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $7.96/MMbtu.
  • Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
