BOONE, Iowa—Doyle Cox, age 84 of Boone and the Westhaven Community, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at the Westhaven Community.
Doyle Norman Cox was born on May 7, 1938 in Boone, the son of Woodrow and Alice (Staley) Cox. He attended Boone Public Schools. Doyle served in the Iowa National Guard.
Doyle was united in marriage with Joyce Jones Irvine and from this union was one son, Chris. The couple later divorced.
Doyle was united in marriage with Ida Hartling on October 10, 1964 in Council Bluffs. From this union were two children, Wanda and Wade.
Doyle worked as a mechanic for the City of Boone for over 30 years. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage at home and fixing anything his family would break (Gorilla Glue was a fix all!). Doyle and his brother Chuck spent weekends watching NASCAR and in their younger years, they raced stock cars at the Boone Speedway and Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City.
When Doyle wasn’t tinkering on cars, he enjoyed watching WWE and Dallas; One of the most memorable trips was to South Fork Ranch with his family. There was a time when Doyle went go kart racing with grandkids, Grandpa Doyle tried to contain his emotions but his face could not hide the excitement and he shared a big smile. Doyle loved being a grandpa.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wade Cox in 2002; brothers, Charles “Chuck” Cox and Larry Cox; and his first wife, Joyce. He is survived by his wife, Ida; children, Chris (Julie) Cox and Wanda Cox, all of Boone; grandchildren, Tony (Kerry) Cox, Bri (Nathan) Shafer, Joshua (Jordanna) Stover and Spencer (Emily) Stover; great-grandchildren, Tate, Paisley and Teague Shafer, Quinn and Cole Cox, Jensen and Georgia Stover and Elsie and Sawyer Stover; sisters, Lorraine (Darwin) Madden, Linda Jones, Bev (Jeff) Houston and Vickie (Randy) Treadway; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
