BOONE, Iowa—Boone County Engineer Jonathan Bullock has announced that the Union Pacific Rail Road crossings at Quartz Avenue and R Avenue will be permanently closed starting Thursday, June 15th. Temporary road closures will be installed in the interim until the Contractor has removed the approaches and at grade crossings. Once crossings are removed, permanent closure barricades will be installed. Traffic is encouraged to utilize crossings at either S Avenue, Benton Street or Story Street.
Boone County has been preparing for the eventual decision by the Union Pacific to close the crossings, which were part of the agreement for Union Pacific support for the Iowa DOT bridge project at “S” Avenue (Highway 17).
