STRATFORD, Iowa—Geraldine Ella Kent, 97, of Stratford, Iowa, passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. She was born on September 18, 1927, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd Hiveley and Elizabeth (Bennett) Hiveley.

On January 11, 1948, Geraldine married Myron Kent in Homer, Iowa. She worked for Globe Union Electronics in Fort Dodge as a payroll manager for 10 years. She then stayed at home and was a farmwife until her retirement in 1988. Geraldine was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to sew and quilt and was active in the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Kent; parents, Lloyd and Elizabeth Hiveley; two brothers, Eugene Hiveley and Maynard Hiveley; and several sisters-in-law.

Geraldine is survived by her son, Lloyd (Martha) Kent of Stratford, IA; brothers, Wayne Hiveley of Lehigh, IA, and Elwood (Carol) Hiveley of Woolstock, IA; two grandchildren, Adam Kent of Guthrie Center, IA, and Jordan (Rachel) Kent of Urbandale, IA; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, with Pastor Justin Crocheck officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford following the funeral service. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be before the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford.
