The Madrid football team had a rematch of last year’s Class A semi-final game as it faced West Hancock Friday, November 14, at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls.
The outcome was similar as the Eagles again topped the Tigers, 50-35.
West Hancock got off to a fast start, scoring 3 times in the first quarter and was up 22-0.
Madrid got on the board when Preston Wicker ran for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter, making the score 22-7.
However, the Eagles scored 2 more times in the 2nd quarter and were up 36-7 at the half.
The Tigers came alive in the 3rd quarter, with Wicker and Easton Halverson both scoring rushing touchdowns, bringing the score to 36-21.
West Hancock scored near the end of the 3rd quarter and the score was 43-21.
Madrid was not finished and scored twice in the fourth quarter when Wicker ran in the end zone again and also passed to Loken Velky making the score 43-35.
Unfortunately, West Hancock had the final say, scoring near the end of the 4th quarter and bringing the final score to 53-35.
Wicker went 10 of 17 for 189 passing yards and 1 touchdown and also had 33 carries for 234 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.
Easton Halverson had 10 carries for 72 yards and 1 touchdown while Loken Velky had 5 carries for 29 yards.
Velky had 3 receptions for 60 yards including 1 touchdown.
Additionally, Toryn Severson had 10 receptions for 189 yards, and Emerson Bridgewater had 5 receptions for 94 yards.
For the defense, Will Atkinson had 8 tackles, 4 of which were solo tackles.
Jevyn Severson had 5 tackles, 2 of which were solo tackles, and 1 tackle for loss.
Madrid ends its season 9-3 and West Hancock is 12-0 heading into next week’s Class A championship game.
