Madrid basketball travels to Van Meter

The Madrid boys’ basketball team beat Van Meter, 60-34, in conference play Tuesday, December 17, at Van Meter.

The Madrid boys’ basketball team beat Van Meter, 60-34, in conference play Tuesday, December 17, at Van Meter. 

Toryn Severson led the Tigers in scoring with 20 points on 9 field goals and 2 free throws. 

Fabian Ortiz-Alaniz had 13 points on 5 field goals and 3 3-pointers, and Brody Buck had 11 points on 4 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 2 free throws. 

Ortiz-Alaniz added 5 assists, while Buck and Toryn Severson had 2 each. 

For the Madrid defense, Toryn Severson had 7 rebounds and 5 steals. 

Jevyn Severson grabbed 6 rebounds, 1 block and 2 steals, and Emerson Bridgewater had 5 rebounds. 

The Tigers improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the West Central Conference. 

Van Meter falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. 

The Tigers will host West Fork (2-1) tonight at 7:30 at Madrid. 

Girls lose at Van Meter 

The Madrid girls’ basketball team lost to Van Meter, 57-11, in conference play on Tuesday, December 17, at Van Meter. 

The Tigers were led by Laura Eagleton who had 7 points on 2 3-pointers and 1 free throw for the offense and 4 rebounds for the defense. 

Madrid falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference. 

Van Meter improves to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. 

The girls will host West Central Valley (3-3, 2-2) on Friday, December 20, in Madrid.
