The Boone girls’ wrestling team was 1 of 27 teams at a tournament Saturday, January 11, in Ogden.
Osage won the tournament with 231.5 points. Boone finished 17th with 45 points.
Poppy Malone placed 4th at 105 pounds.
Malone pinned Abby Flaherty of Urbandale in 1:41 and won by decision over Terra Swedin of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven Ayrshire, 5-0.
She lost by technical fall to Mercedes Ponce of Perry, 17-1, and pinned Reese Taylor of Algona in 4:49 in the consolation round.
In the 3rd place match, Malone lost by major decision to Kylee Adams of Newton, 16-8.
McKayla Silbaugh placed 5th at 130 pounds.
Silbaugh lost by decision in the prelims by Moriah Reineke of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, 3-1.
She then won by decision over Kayla Skramstad of Manson Northwest Webster, 5-4, won by decision over Kiah Villarreal of Algona, 10-4, and won by decision over Emersen Gunzenhauser of Wayne, 6-4.
In the consolation semifinals, Silbaugh was pinned by Brooklyn Mitchell of South Tama County in :23 before winning the 5th place match by pinning Bradlynn Virchow of Ankeny in 2:42.
Cadence Heggen placed 5th at 190 pounds.
After receiving a first round bye, she lost by ultimate tie braker to Aysia Moser of Ankeny, 6-5.
In the consolation rounds, she pinned Elyza Williamson of Osage in 2:16 and pinned Grace Hammer of Ogden in 1:20.
Heggen lost by decision to Ashlyn Van Manen of Newton, 9-4, and won her 5th place match by pinning Moser in 3:45.
Others competing in Ogden for Boone were Emersyn Zehner at 140 pounds and Kira Majak at 155 pounds.
