The Boone boys’ basketball team scored a conference road victory against Raccoon River rival North Polk, 72-68, Tuesday, January 14, in Alleman as the girls’ team lost, 73-16.
The Toreadors held a lead, 14-13, at the end of the 1st quarter and were up by 10, 37-27, at the half.
Boone continued to lead, 54-43, at the end of the 3rd quarter and held off a 4th quarter rally from the Comets to win the game, 72-68.
Tyson Shivers led the Toreadors with 16 points on 7 field goals and 2 free throws.
Braden Brooks added 14 points on 4 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 4 free throws.
Jude Baumgardner had 12 points on 3 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 4 free throws.
Wes Van Pelt also was in double figures with 2 3-pointers and 5 free throws.
Boone improves its record to 6-5 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
North Polk falls to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Earlier in the evening, the Boone girls’ basketball team lost to Class 3A, No. 2, North Polk, 73-16.
Macy Chesnut led the Toreadors with 4 points.
Ava Johnson and Bry Morgan each made a 3-pointer.
Addie Tungesvik, Avah Hayes and Avery Howie all scored 2 points each.
The Toreadors are 4-9 overall and 0-8 in the conference with the Comets at 12-0 overall and 8-0 in the conference.
Boone will host Denison-Schleswig (girls 2-7, boys 0-8) in a non-conference doubleheader game with the girls at 6:00 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. in Boone.
