
Boone’s softball season came to an end Tuesday, July 14, as North Polk defeated the Toreadors, 5-1, in the Class 4A Region 6 championship game at North Polk High School in Alleman.
Boone collected six hits in the contest, led by Claire Hardinger, who went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Tenley Williams added two hits and scored the Toreadors’ lone run.
Brooke Weisbrod contributed a hit and drove in Boone’s only run, while Halle Bailey and Kaylee Kuehl each added a hit.
In the circle, Weisbrod pitched a complete game and struck out three batters in the loss.
Boone finished the season with a 16-16 overall record and a 4-12 mark in the Raccoon River Conference.
The Comets improved to 20-16 and secured a berth in the state tournament and will face Carlisle (33-5) at 3 p.m. Monday, July 20, at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.
For the year, Weisbrod and Hardinger led the team with 42 hits apiece.
Bailey finished with 34 hits, Kuehl added 32, and Olivia Garver recorded 24 hits.
Weisbrod also paced the Toreadors offensively with 30 RBIs, followed by Kuehl with 28 and Bailey with 20.
In the pitching circle, Weisbrod led the staff with eight wins and 55 strikeouts.
Williams finished with five victories and 17 strikeouts, while Kuehl added three wins and 28 strikeouts.
