SHENANDOAH, Iowa—Marilyn Jean (Moger) Casotti, 90, passed away peacefully, with her daughter by her side, on February 18, 2025, at Homestead Senior Living in Shenandoah, IA from complications due to dementia and congestive heart failure.

Marilyn was born on January 31, 1935 to Flora Wilhelmina Amanda (Jabker) Moger and Leon Earl Moger in Omaha, NE. She spent her early childhood years in Clarinda, Iowa. The family later relocated for Leon's work to North Carolina and eventually to Colorado, where Marilyn graduated from Sterling High School in 1953. She then followed her parents to Boone, Iowa where she went to work at Boone State Bank and Trust, and then met her future husband, Tyrus Raymond Casotti. They were married on May 3, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, IA. Their first child, Gregory Lee, was stillborn on May 24, 1960. They were later blessed with two more children, Lori Ann, born in 1961 and David Paul, born in 1963. Ty and Marilyn lived their entire married lives in Boone. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church and Dave and Lori attended Trinity Lutheran School through 8th grade. One of Marilyn’s greatest memories was acting in plays at Trinity, comedies of course.

Ty and Marilyn were very involved in the Tall Corn Antique Auto Club and the Studebaker Driver’s Club and spent many weekends with great friends at club events and parades across Iowa and the United States. She was well known for her baking skills and her “male” and “female” brownies were always very popular.

Marilyn is best remembered as always being happy, and always having cookies (homemade in her younger years) in her Tupperware “cookie jar”. She shared smiles and laughter with everyone she met. She was a homemaker and loving wife and mother, later working outside the home. She initially worked for Russell Sandy Insurance Agency in Boone, and later as the secretary for Quam Insurance and Real Estate, also in Boone. She loved her co-workers and enjoyed working with the public. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, cooking and baking. In her younger years she bowled with friends in a league on Monday nights and loved traveling to state bowling tournaments each year. Later she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s many activities. Her lifelong favorite past-time was playing cards. Whether it be with her parents, her children, her friends or her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was always up for a game of Tripoli, UNO, Phase Ten or her family favorite, “Peanuts”. She was full of life and loved being anywhere as long as she was with her family and friends.

Preceding Marilyn in death were her infant brother Herold, infant son Gregory, her husband Ty, her parents, and father and mother-in-law Alfredo and Pia (Trinity Marzi) Casotti, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Left to cherish her love and memories are daughter Lori (Casotti) Knight and husband Ron, of Shenandoah, IA, granddaughter Ashley (Knight) Shadel, husband Justin and great-granddaughters Gianna and Vivian Shadel, all of Lenexa, KS, grandson Braden Knight, Randi Knop and future great-granddaughter Ruthie, of Shenandoah, IA, son David and wife Carol (Finestead) Casotti of Boone, IA, granddaughter Andrea (Casotti) Stumpf, husband Brian and great-granddaughter Charlotte, of Lee’s Summit, MO, grandson Anthony Casotti, of Boone, IA, grandson Tyler Casotti, of Ames, IA, grandson Trey Casotti and fiancé Eden Cross of Pleasant Hill, IA, grandson Dominic Casotti of Ames, IA, sister-in-law Shirley (Casotti) Howes of Rockford, IL and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
