Don Engnell

BOONE, Iowa—Don “Donnie” Engnell, 89, of Boone, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, with Pastor Phil Waldo officiating. Inurnment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, with Military Honors by the Boone Veterans Council.

Donnie was born March 11, 1936, and lived most of his life on the farm he was born and raised on near Boone, the son of Clarence and Helen (Johnson) Engnell. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1957.

On February 14, 1959, Donnie was united in marriage to Sharon Jean Tilley at the Central Christian Church in Boone. To this union were three children Kurt, Joni and Julie.

Donnie farmed all his life and when he wasn’t working his own land, he was helping other with theirs. He worked at Dewitt Implement in Ogden for 30+ years. In his younger years, Donnie bowled and was a member of the Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Clarence Engnell; wife, of 61 years, Sharon Engnell; son-in-law, Omar Sheriff and his brother, Bobby Engnell.

Donnie is survived by his three children, Kurt Engnell of Fort Dodge, Joni Sheriff of Boone and Julie (Scott) Dorr of Boone; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Engnell, Jennifer Flaherty, Eric (Staci) Dorr and Tyler Dorr; great-grandchildren, Makenna Flaherty and Taylor and Riley Engnell; two sisters-in-law, Jo Ellen Engnell of Maysville, MO and Sandy Garberding of Littleton, CO.
