MADRID, Iowa—Rain, flood, down trees – rain, flood, down trees – repeat. This cycle has been like a broken record at Ledges the last two weeks. To date in June, 12″ of rain has fallen at the park, and 8.6″ of that has been received just in the last two weeks! On Wednesday, June 25th the Canyon Drive was closed after a 1.5″ rain and then another 1.4″ fell in the afternoon on June 26th.
Heading into this week we are watching rising Des Moines River water levels and the potential for river flooding to impact access to lower areas of the park. For the most up-to-date information on closures at Ledges, you check out our DNR closure webpage, or call the park office at (515) 432-1852.
