The Boone softball team closed out its regular season with a tough road doubleheader against No. 11-ranked Winterset, falling in both games Monday, June 7.
Game 1: No. 11 Winterset 6, Boone 0
Winterset’s pitching kept Boone off the scoreboard in the opener, despite a pair of hits from Carly Busch, who also stole a base.
Brooke Weisbrod, Avery Howie, and Sydney Adams each added a hit.
Busch pitched a complete game in the loss.
Game 2: No. 11 Winterset 9, Boone 6
Boone bounced back with a strong offensive showing in Game 2, led by Avery Howie, who went 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base.
Kaylee Kuehl launched a home run, scored twice, and drove in a run, while Claire Hardinger, Busch, Adams, and Gracie Vodenik all contributed at the plate.
Weisbrod pitched a complete game and recorded one strikeout in the loss.
Boone finishes the regular season at 19–13 overall and 7–9 in the Raccoon River Conference. Winterset improves to 24–14 overall and 19–5 in conference play.
The Toreadors now turn their attention to the postseason, where they’ll host Perry (7–11) in a Class 4A Region 7 tournament opener on Thursday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at Gary Creasman Field.
Boone defeated Perry 10–2 just last week and will look to repeat that performance in front of a home crowd.
