Gwen Platter

BOONE, Iowa—Gwen J. Platter, 94, of Boone, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

Gwen was born January 26, 1931, in Boone, the daughter of Lewis and Edith (Robertson) Mosher. She attended school in Boone and graduated with the class of 1949.

Gwen was united in marriage to LaVerne “Bud” Platter on September 18, 1949, in Boone. To this union three children were born, Linda, Patricia and Steven.

She first started working part time in high school at the Coney Island Restaurant, then fulltime at R.H. Donnelley in Nevada, until Gwen took a position at Bourns in 1958, in Ames, where she remained until her retirement in 1990.

Gwen, in her younger years, belonged to the Boone County Sportsmen’s Club, and Boone Boat Club. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 817 in Boone, the Moose Lodge 104 of Boone, and the First United Methodist Church, where she was in various ladies’ groups. The most important thing to Gwen was her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 66 years, Bud Platter in 2016; daughter, Patricia Wilson in 2024; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Wilson; three sisters and one brother.

Gwen is survived by her children, Linda (Raymond) Reindl of Boone and Steve (Laurie) Platter of Boone; six grandchildren, Lisa (William) Aspengren Kammerer, Anthony Aspengren, Matthew (Cindy) Wilson, Staci (Mark) Prokop, Robert (Brandy Meyer) Platter, and Stephanie (John) Logue; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Arden Street, Boone, with Rev. Adam Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Moingona.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for their discretion. Memorials may be mailed to Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, ATTN: Gwen Platter Family, P.O. Box 15, Boone, IA 50036.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Gwen’s family www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
