The Madrid girls’ cross country team finished second overall with 71 points at the Ogden Invitational Monday, September 29, at Don Williams Golf Course.
The Tigers were just behind Boone, who won the meet with 49 points.
Leading the charge for Madrid was Madelyn Grothus, who claimed the individual title with a time of 19:31.83.
She was followed closely by teammates Katelyn Brandhorst (3rd, 19:53.74) and Hannah Brandhorst (5th, 20:00.34), giving Madrid three runners in the top five.
Adelyn White (25th, 23:35.98) and Charis Peasley (37th, 24:32.36) were next across the line for Madrid.
Makayla Mullenbach (43rd, 25:17.47) and Ella Hutchinson (52nd, 26:40.14) also contributed solid efforts.
The Madrid boys finished 6th with 164 points in a competitive field led by Riverside of Oakland, who won with just 25 points.
Cavin Pehl led Madrid with a 14th-place finish in 18:13.47, followed by Hudson White (16th, 18:25.31) and Kris Petersen (24th, 19:22.90).
Aiden Titus (58th, 22:23.21), Blane Schneider (62nd, 22:32.28), Landen Schneider (65th, 22:54.50), and Cole Berberich (74th, 23:52.35) rounded out the team’s effort.
Madrid will next race at the Jim Klein Cross Country Invitational Thursday, October 9, in Jewell.
