Delores Sprecher

Delores Sprecher, 74, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Delores Elaine Sprecher, 74, of Boone, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Delores, lovingly known as Dee Dee or Dee, was born on February 17, 1951, in Centerville, Iowa, to Paul and Beverly Couchman. She attended Wayne Community High School in Corydon, Iowa, where she was active in sports and school activities. Dee graduated with the Class of 1969. On December 1, 1979, she was united in marriage to Gary Sprecher at the United Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa.

Dee spent much of her working life employed at 3M, where she worked as a forklift driver and held various other responsibilities. She later stepped away from the workforce to devote herself to raising her three children, a role she cherished deeply. During that time, she volunteered at United Community School while her children attended. Dee later returned to work as a secretary for Community Family Resources in Ames, formerly known as The Richmond Center, where she remained until her retirement in 2020.

A woman of faith and service, Dee was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She took pride in caring for the church grounds, often mowing the yard on the 154 Cub Lowboy in her younger years. She was also a proud member of the American Legion, honoring her father’s military service.

Dee and Gary shared their first date at the Iowa State Fair, riding the Sky Lift together. From those early days forward, their marriage was built on mutual care and partnership. Dee watched for Gary as he came up the road from the fields, turning on the shed lights to guide him home, and helped wash the combine. Gary, in turn, never failed to step outside to open the old wooden garage door for Dee when she returned home.

Music was a lifelong passion for Dee. She had a beautiful singing voice and always dreamed of being a country music singer. She even wrote a song inspired by her years working at 3M. Her favorite artists included Patsy Cline, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, and Vince Gill. Music filled her home and her family’s lives. She often greeted her children each morning with a cheerful good‑morning song and shared her gift whenever she could. Dee was honored to sing alongside her daughter at several weddings, moments that became treasured family memories. When her granddaughter Esther was young, Dee would softly sing “Edelweiss” to comfort her, later teaching her “I Love You a Bushel and a Peck,” a song Esther loves to sing.

Being a mother was one of Dee’s greatest joys. She never missed her children’s sporting events and even coached baseball. When her children participated in bowling league, Dee became well known for her enthusiastic gobble whenever someone rolled a turkey—three strikes in a row—her laughter ringing through the bowling alley.

Dee especially cherished time spent with her granddaughter, Esther. Whether working on puzzles side by side or playing a rowdy game of Jenga, those moments together were deeply meaningful to her.

A devoted sports fan, Dee never missed a Chicago Cubs game and followed Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever whenever she could. Many games were “watched” alongside her sister Joyce over the phone, sharing excitement, conversation, and companionship as if seated together.

Above all, Dee was known for her thoughtfulness and care for others. She exchanged daily messages with her son Josh during his work breaks, clipped recipes she thought Sara might enjoy, saved extra address label stickers for Essie, and was always on the lookout for the best deals at the grocery store. These small acts of kindness were constant reminders of her love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Beverly Couchman, and her brother, Marvin Couchman.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 46 years, Gary Sprecher; her children, Joshua Sprecher, Adam Sprecher, and Sara Everson (Shawn); her beloved granddaughter, Esther Everson; her brother, Ken Couchman; and her sister, Joyce McCaron (Dan).

Dee will be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, her love of music, and the countless small ways she showed care to those around her. Her voice, her songs, and her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Standfest officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery following the funeral service. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

The Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
